The Forgetting Tree

Program Notes

The Forgetting Tree (2018) was performed at the inaugural concert of the Composer of Oregon Chamber Orchestra on May 5th, 2018, conducted by Brian McWhorter. This short orchestral fantasy explores themes of identity, memory, and escapism:

β€œIn a distant land, you have heard there stands a tree that can relieve you of your unwanted memories. Simply sit beneath its boughs and let go - your painful moments will be stripped of their power, becoming no more than images of a story you know by heart. The tree takes your memories and absorbs them into itself. But beware, if you are unable to relinquish your memories, you yourself will be absorbed into the tree.”
