Hello everyone, and welcome to my composition blog! Here I will be discussing the mysterious habits of composers, my own compositional process, thoughts about listening, and some anecdotes.

One of questions I'll inevitably return to is, how does music create meaning? How do abstract waves of air compression elicit specific emotional worlds, consistently and dependably? This was the central question of my undergraduate thesis and I continue search for answers in my daily experience of sound.

I will also try to demystify what it means to compose, since it is often seen as partly fits of passion and partly minor miracles of inspiration. It's a little more mundane. Like, I sit at the piano in solitude for a few hundred hours typing out little bits of music and sticking them into a music notation program and after a few months I have a draft of a piece.

Keep an eye out for interviews with contemporary composers, both established and upcoming. I hope to get their perspective on what it means to be a composer in the 21st century.

I hope you enjoy the content here, and let me know if you have any requests for future posts!
